Creative Women's Circle - Sydney

 Photos by Taryn Cornell

One of my creative goals this year is to get more involved and so it was with this in mind, that I approached Creative Women's Circle (CWC) about helping out with their Sydney events. It's such a privilege to have been given the role of organising Sydney CWC events this year and has  enabled me to meet and work with some incredibly talented ladies.

We kicked things off with the uber talented balloon queen Heidi Moore-Gill who gave us an insight into her creative world and how she got to where she is today. It was a fun morning full of balloons, tea and creative conversations with a certain buzz and excitement in the room as to the endless possibilities that exist for us all. Bring on the next CWC event!

Paper rosettes at The School

The ever fabulous Megan Morton has created a crafter's paradise at The School, a place where artists and dreamers can get their hands dirty making, creating and painting. I was lucky enough to attend the very last paper rosette class that Marsha Golemac was teaching late last year to learn all about this colourful (and surprisingly easy) paper craft.

With an endless supply of paper, washi tape and glue guns we learnt the simple art of creating paper rosettes from scratch. It was so nice spending the afternoon crafting in this glorious space while eating gourmet hot dogs, drinking homemade punch and savouring ice popsicles from Liana Raine. The perfect day really.

My word for 2014: CREATE

With my list of goals finalised, I've decided the word I want to live by this year is: create. I started this blog primarily to find my creative mojo and with the dawn of a new year, I have decided that my focus for the year ahead is just that - to create. It encompasses so many things - creating with my hands, creating more time for the things I love, creating an entertaining blog and (eventually) creating events that inspire and delight.

And with that in mind, here is a snapshot of some of the interesting workshops and events that are currently inspiring me to get creative:
  • The School - if you haven't heard of Megan Morton's creative portal, then you must be living under a rock! This studio is a gold mine of creativity and offers classes on everything from styling and macarame to photography and calligraphy.
  • Blog Society - the lovely Jaclyn is taking the Australian blogging world by storm with this creative hub that offers everything from workshops and gatherings to events and dinners.
  • Creative Women's Circle - is a community for creative women who gather every couple of months to listen to a guest speaker, network and share ideas. Originally founded in Melbourne, more events are planned in Sydney and Brisbane this year so get on board!
  • Unleash Creative - Melbourne crafter Magdalena has assembled the creme-de-la-creme of creatives to offer full day craft workshops in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane later this year.

A new year = new possibilities

For the first time in a long time, I decided not to make new years resolutions instead opting to list some goals I want to work towards in 2014. The dawn of a new year brings with it the chance to start afresh along with the promise of new opportunities. I am so excited about the year ahead and what's in store and can't wait to see what creative adventures await. I have made myself a promise to:
  • Live in the moment and embrace the now
  • Do more of what I love
  • Live a more creative life
  • Get involved
